In Malaysia, this usually means a certain period of time where post-maternity moms are advised to stay mostly at home, eat healthy diet and take time to heal with traditional massage, hot stones treatment and herbal bath.
Sounds soothing and enjoyable right? Well, that's just half the story.
In came my mother.
At 59 years of age, she is slimmer than me, not a single stretch mark on her body and a face that reflects the timeless beauty that she is, mashAllah. I really pray for her growing-old-gracefully genes but based on my previous blogpost, I need to make some serious extra prayers and tahajjud for this 😂
Her secret, if you ask her?
She took her confinement period seriously...and at another level. Oh don't you argue with her the importance of doing confinement her way. Even if you have a medical degree and 30 years experience in medical field....she knows better 😂
Our normal confinement period is 44 days, and you're not just home bound, but walking up and down the stairs is also forbidden so you stay upstairs for 44 days whether you like it or not. Your breakfast, lunch and dinner are bound by confinement food and you only drink warm water, hot milo and hot red dates juice within this period.
Oh and did you say you had C-Sect delivery? Congratulations, you get to add sugar to your "see you in 44 days" list! 🙌🏽
So if you're having milo, it's Milo-O without Sugar, milady ☝🏼
Suffice to say, confinement is serious business here. And I know there are many school of thoughts but for me, I do it because I know it will make my mom happy and she is doing all this because she cares deeply for me #bestdaughteraward #whatcheatday 😂
I had a C-Sect delivery this time around. The first day I didnt have any proper meal and just drank plenty of warm water post OT. So on 2nd day I was really looking forward to my first meal....until I realised my first meal was plain porridge. And by plain I mean really plain guys - no fish, no salt, no chicken, no nothing.
A day later I got upgraded to porridge with fish - and that was my only meal for the next 2 weeks. Just when I thought I was gonna cry at another sight of porridge, I got upgraded to Organic chicken and I swear it was one of the happiest days in my life 😂
And if I'm hungry in between meals, my only solution is plain crackers. And what kind of nursing mothers don't get hungry right? Breastfeeding makes me hungry at another level, everyone even looks like steak sometimes 😂. Pretty sure I have eaten more biscuits this confinement than I ever had my whole life!
And if you are blessed with really understanding friends, you will also get pictures of what they're having for breakfast just to rub it in your face #luckyme
I was with my nephew just now and he saw my biscuit stacks and looked at me. "Why you have so many biscuits maksu?"
"Because i eat them in my free time, and I have a lot of free time." I explained
"You ate them ALL?" He said, his eyes judging me
"Urm..well, not all..there is still another box of biscuit..." I said, somehow sounding a little defensive.
"Gosh maksu, you ate them all, you're a biscuit monster!" he said, shaking his head in disbelief as he made his way out of my room.
Ugh, I've never felt more judged my whole life!
